What is Acupuncture?
Improving Well Being
For thousands of years the Chinese, and other Eastern peoples have been using acupuncture to restore. promote and maintain health. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms.
Restoration of Health
The Chinese conception of the human body is unique in the completeness of its theory and the everyday application of that theory to the restoration of health through acupuncture. Acupuncture works by affecting the QI energy (Yin & Yang) and man is seen as an energetic being. The Chinese have always been keen on reducing things to their essential parts.
Self-Healing
Central to the concepts behind acupuncture is the idea of the body as self-healing - that as living beings we are all naturally full of vitality and are continually and quite unconsciously being re-balanced and regenerated from within.
This is not difficult to understand... cuts heal 'on their own'; women have the creative power to produce children 'on their own'. In other words, there is a great resource of energy within the body that continually maintains order and is working ceaselessly for our benefit and well-being.
QI
Acupuncture sees the body as a self rectifying dynamic whole, a network of interrelating and interacting energies. Acupuncture is a system of medicine that seeks to aid these natural processes, helping the body to correct itself by re-alignment or redirection of energy which the Chinese call QI.
