What happens in a treatment?

A detailed case history will be taken and you will be asked a wide variety of questions relating to your lifestyle, diet, quality of sleep etc.

After this, you will be asked to lie down on a couch and a diagnosis will take place. This involves the detailed taking of the pulse combined with tongue and body diagnosis.

The pulse is taken at the wrist and 12 different positions are felt, relating to the 12 different main organs and their corresponding meridians. Taking all these details into account, as few as two to four points may be selected (sometimes more) and very fine pre-sterilised disposable needles are used.

There are about 500 recognised acupuncture points on the body of which approximately 100 are most commonly used. The needles stay in for an average of 20 minutes and, for example, although you may suffer from headaches. needles may be inserted in your foot or your hand.

How many treatments will I need?

Some patients only need a few treatments, while others need sustained care to change patterns established over a long period of time.

Many people will feel relief from their symptoms after 4 to 5 treatments. Over time. increased energy and vitality, greater enjoyment of life, greater confidence, better sleep and normal appetite may be experienced.
